WEEK 1 ACTIVITIES:
DAY 1:
Literacy: Go on a letter scavenger hunt! Print out the ABC Letter Cards from our FREE Activity Library, or write your own letters on post-it notes. Hide the letters around your house, and have your little one find them. Once they find a letter, ask them to tell you the name of the letter, sound of the letter, and a word that starts with that letter.
Math: Have your little one collect a group of toys and/or books and put them in a pile on the floor. Then have them count out groups of 10. They could also sort the toys and/or books by color, shape, or size.
Fine Motor: Give your little one some scissors & scrap paper, and have them practice cutting! (Note: Later in the week, they’ll be making a rainbow with a paper plate. If you have them cut up colored pieces of paper today, they could use them to make their rainbow later. Win win!)
Gross Motor: Play the Move Like an Animal Game from our FREE Activity Library. Your little one will roll the cube and then act out the correct animal movement.
DAY 2:
Literacy: Draw hearts on a piece of paper, and then write letters inside the hearts. Have your little one find and color each letter that you call out. You could call out the name, sound, or a word that starts with the letter. Your little one can use markers, crayons, or do-a-dot markers to color in the heart.
Math: Choose 5 toys to measure with a ruler. Then have your little one put the toys in order from tallest to shortest.
Fine Motor: Make a card for a community helper (firefighter, police officer, doctor, nurse, military, etc). Have your little one thank them for their service to your community.
Gross Motor: Play this You Tube video and do the Hokey Pokey. That’s what it’s all about!
DAY 3:
Literacy: Use the Name & Letter Sort from our FREE Activity Library to sort letters in a variety of ways. You can choose to print out the letters in the printable, or you can use letters you already have (like refrigerator letters). Choose which ways to have your little one sort the letters (there are 4 mats to choose from).
Math: Draw circles on a big sheet of paper, and then write numbers inside the circles. Have your little one roll a die, count the dots, and color the correct circle on the paper. If they’re ready, you can have them roll two dice and add up the total.
Fine Motor: Have fun playing with play dough! You can use store-bought play dough if you have some on hand, or you can make your own. Here’s a link to a great homemade play dough recipe that we love. (If you don’t have cream of tartar, try this one instead.) Then use the play dough to make letters, numbers, and 2D shapes.
Gross Motor: Tape the ABC Letter Cards from our FREE Activity Library to the wall. Call out a letter name, sound, or a word, and have your little one throw a ball (or beanbag) at the correct letter.
DAY 4:
Literacy: Choose a story to read aloud to your little one, but don’t show them the pictures. Instead, have them draw a picture of what they’re imagining in their minds. When they’re done, have them compare their drawings with the book’s drawings.
Math: For this game, you and your little one will each choose a playing card. Have your little one tell you which card is bigger and why. Whoever has the bigger number gets to keep both cards. Then repeat.
Fine Motor: Have your little one practice writing their letters in shaving cream or whipped cream! Since this activity gets super messy, you could try doing it in the bathtub or shower (without water) or on a sheet pan.
Gross Motor: Play Freeze Dance with a twist! While you play the music, have your little one do a certain gross motor skill (such as jumping jacks, galloping, jumping on one leg, crawling backwards, etc). Once you stop the music, have them freeze! Then start another round with a new gross motor skill.
DAY 5:
Literacy: Print two copies of the ABC Chart from our FREE Activity Library. Cut apart the letters from one of the copies, while you keep the other one as is. Hide the cut up letters in a sensory bin or around the room, and have your little one match the letters. You could also add velcro to the letters to make them stick to each other.
Math: Use the 2D Shape Mats from our FREE Activity Library to review shapes. Then find objects around the house that match each 2D shape.
Fine Motor: Make a rainbow with a paper plate. All you do is cut a paper plate in half, and then have your little one glue colored pieces of paper to it. They could also use colored tissue paper. When they’re done, you can add cotton balls to each end as the clouds.
Gross Motor: Play Red Light Green Light with letters. Call out a letter, and have your little one move only if that letter is in their name. If it’s not in their name, they have to stay put.
